For his Multiple Problems series of original works on paper, Barry Reigate has drawn, painted, poured varnish and airbrushed over digitally printed geometric patterns, to create an optical excess which is almost overwhelming. Cartoon doodles and random splashes of colour are grafittid over the surface, in places harmoniously with the background, in others obliterating it. This visual clutter, a trademark of the artist’s work, represents the abundance of information and oversupply of culture to which we are continuously exposed.
